Annette Addo-Yobo from North Texas was crowned Miss Texas 2024. She became the first immigrant and the first girl from Ghana to win the title.
Addo-Yobo was born in Ghana but grew up in Canada and the USA. She studied at the University of Texas at Dallas and received her bachelor’s degree in psychology in 2020. She said she “missed out on many opportunities as a teenager and student” because of her citizenship. Namely, she only received American citizenship in 2022.
She announced after the victory
After the victory, she announced herself on Instagram. “I am honored and grateful to be the 87th Miss Texas. I hope to continue making history,” she wrote, then revealed what she will be vying for.

Namely, her younger brother Andrew was diagnosed with autism when he was four years old and Annette wants to raise awareness about it.
“As a sister of a person on the spectrum, I noticed very early on the systemic inequities, lack of education and training. My mission is to amplify the voices of the autistic community and make sure that legislators, decision makers and members of society see us and fight for us,” she wrote.
